U.S. Troops in Germany look to set record with Yellow Ribbon Run

Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series and The Warrior Tours partner to support record attempt

Grafenwoehr, Germany (November 4, 2009) - U.S. Servicemen and women, along with family and community members will be running in the first ever Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series Yellow Ribbon Run at U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr in Grafenwoehf, Germany, on November 18th. The event, being produced by MWR USAG Grafenwoehr and the nonprofit organization The Warrior Tours (http://www.thewarriortours.com), is attempting to set a record for the largest yellow ribbon run conducted by service members on a military facility and is expected to draw over 3,000 participants.

"We’ve shipped over 4,000 yellow ribbons for the event in hopes that they can establish world record," said Rob Powers, America's Voice of Running and the founder of The Warrior Tours.

The Warrior Tours staff, in conjunction with Army Public Affairs and Armed Forces Network Europe, will be filming the run for distribution online and for use by the media, with special coverage by Competitor Magazine (http://www.competitor.com). In addition, Powers will be conducting a series of fitness seminars, meet and greets and spreading goodwill amongst the Soldiers and their family members leading up to the holiday season in Germany.

"When we heard that the RocknRoll Marathon Series was a supporter of the event we thought there was no better way to thank them than creating a World Record attempt as our salute to the World’s largest running series,” said Troy Mason, Sponsorship and Advertising Manager, USAG Grafenwoehr Soldiers, Family and Morale Welfare Recreation.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon & ½ Marathon is the Sunday prior to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series Yellow Ribbon Run, where Powers will be the race announcer and will be recording and documenting well wishes from stateside runners to share with the troops in Germany.

"The timing couldn't be better. I'll be leaving the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon & ½ Marathon and coming back from the Yellow Ribbon Run to the Rock ’n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon & ½ Marathon, so we'll be in position to share the stories of the run and our soldiers’ outstanding accomplishments with thousands of American runners," says Powers.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series is the largest running series in the world, and the staff at USAG Grafenwoehr is attempting live up to the size of their sponsor by setting a Guinness Book of World Records Run.
